A 234 meter deep, 195 mm diameter ice core was drilled at DE08, 16 km east of the summit of Law Dome summit in 1987. The details of the thermal drill facility are described. The ice core and borehole were measured and sampled on-site for all principal parameters and showed that the core reached back to about 1810 AD. The snow accumulation rate at the drill site is about 1200 kg m-2 a-1 and surface melting is very infrequent. The suitability of the core for gas composition studies and other analyses is discussed.
