Abstract

Viscosity and density measurements were carried out on solutions of ethylene glycol and propylene glycol.

The object of these measurements was to determine viscosity and density changes with respect to temperatures for two types of glycol solutions. These solutions may be considered as possible densifiers in ice boreholes for relief of a suck ice core drill. Two characteristics of the densifiers are favorable to this purpose: 1)high density; and 2) low viscosity at low temperatures from 0 degrees Celsius to -50 degrees Celsius.
