Foro 700 Drill

Description

Per the Long Range Science Plan, a system similar to the existing Intermediate Depth Drill (1650 meters) and the Foro 400 Drill (400 meters) that is currently in development, a mid-range drill (700 meters) is desired for use in remote areas such as mountain glaciers in the Arctic. In 2017 and early 2018, IDP iterated with community scientists on requirements for such a drill. The resulting requirements were finalized in March 2018.

Status

Following the recent finalization of the science requirements, IDP is now working to complete the Conceptual Overview of a 700 m drill system. This overview will then be reviewed both internally at IDP and externally by science community representatives and the NSF prior to completion of the Detailed Design and subsequent fabrication.
