Abstract |
Aqueous ethyl alcohol (and ethylene glycol) solutions have a substantial history of use in a variety of deep ice drilling objects. This report considers such factors as ice corrosion, penetration, density, viscosity and safety of aqueous ethanol (and of ethylene glycol) as an ice core drilling fluid. The coast and environmental factors for ethanol as a drilling fluid are very good, but aspects such as viscosity and ice corrosion are not. |
