What
The goal of this workshop is to identify and discuss U.S. community ideas on future deep or intermediate depth ice coring sites in the Arctic or Antarctic that would require use of the DISC or IDD coring drills. The workshop will enable community members to participate with the Ice Core Working Group in a short meeting to identify, discuss, and work toward consensus on the target sites and years. Results from these discussions will form the basis of the drilling sites identified in the IDPO Long Range Science Plan for 2014-2024.

Transportation
There will be a 14-passenger van that runs 2x in the morning and 2x in the evening to transport people back and forth between the Atrium Hotel and UC-Irvine..

South Pole Ice Core Workshop
Prior to the Community Workshop on Ice Coring, there is a 1.5-day workshop (25-26 Feb) to make plans in advance of the the April NSF-PLR Antarctic Research solicitation deadline for proposals aimed at working on the South Pole 1500-m Ice Core. Community members attending the Community Workshop on Ice Coring are also welcome to attend the South Pole Ice Core Workshop. The first drilling season for the South Pole Ice Core is 2014-2015, so ice will be available for analysis starting in summer 2015. Among items to discuss at the workshop will be decisions on the proposed ice core cut plan, so that researchers can plan their projects around realistic allocations of ice volume. We expect the workshop to be light on research presentations, and heavy on time for making concrete plans. Discussions of the South Pole Ice Core will end by noon on 26 Feb.
